Kerala

Kerala in southwestern India is one of the most beautiful states. It is home to colourful festivals, traditions, attires and luxurious food. Elaborate with tropical vegetation, immaculate beaches, tranquil backwaters and diversity of flora and fauna. Kerala is a perfect destination for families and couples.

It is situated on the Malabar coast of Southern India; the capital of Kerala is Kochi. Kerala makes sure that every corner of it is well reachable by travellers. The highlight of this state is the lagoons called backwaters in Alleppey, which are best enjoyed in houseboats. Also famous here are Ayurveda’s practices.
The traditional food, festivals and art forms are allure to the viewer. Onam is an important festival celebrated with participation from people within and outside the state, and Kathakali is a basic traditional Indian dance form.

1. MUNNAR

It is Popular among honeymooners; Munnar is a hill station discovered in the Idukki district. It lies in the Western Ghats, one of the most sought-after and visited destinations globally. Munnar is famous for its tea farms, vegetation, and blankets of haze forms of natural view.

It is divided into Old Munnar, where the bus station and motels are located. The Eravikulam National Park, Salim Ali Bird Sanctuary and tea gardens are major allures. It is famous for being home to Neelakurinji flowers that bloom once in 12 years.

The main reason to visit here is to analyze the tea gardens that look like a blanket of green spread all over. It is also perfect for Trekking, Camping, and Paragliding. Munnar is heaven for shopping for tea and spices. Cardamom, ginger, cinnamon, clove, nutmeg, coffee and a variety of homemade chocolates can be bought from several shops across the hill town.

2. ALLEPPEY

It is called Alappuzha; the whole city is well known for its beautiful outlands and the houseboats offering nightly stays. The shore of Alleppey proffers the best beaches in Kerala with some water sports during the dry season.  Alleppey is close to Kochi in the South Indian state of Kerala, and its palm-fringed inter-connect network of canal backwaters attracts many tourists worldwide. Alleppey is considered for a honeymoon or a family vacation. 

There are plenty of houseboats, homestays, and healing Ayurvedic. The boats pass through the calm backwaters, where you can catch a glance of green paddy fields and activities like choir-making and also observe the life of locals.

If you want to catch a traditional snake boat race in August and September, try some toddy (palm wine) at a local wine shop to add a touch of authenticity to your travel experience in Allepey.

3. WAYANAD

Place filled with waterfalls, historical caves, cozy resorts and guest houses. Wayanad in Kerala is famous for spice farms and wildlife. Tourists can Walk through the horizontal spice farms, trek to the historic caves and experience a resort holiday.

Wayanad is well known for its wildlife reserves, home to a cultivated variety of flora and fauna. Wayanad is home to various wildlife animals like – elephants, Leopards, and bears. It is the ultimate weekend idea from the cities of South India.

4. THEKKADY

It is the Home of the country’s largest Tiger Reserve- Periyar. There are many hotels near the national park, and an early boat safari within the sanctuary must spot wild elephants, bison, wild boars, various birds, etc.
Periyar National Park, a major attraction, is one place where you can enjoy bamboo rafting in the catchment area of Mullaiperiyar Dam. Travellers can also experience night treks in the wilderness of Periyar. 
Ankara is also the best place to appreciate nature. Murikaddy has been discovered around 5 km from the city and is famous for coffee and spices farms.
Chellar Kovil is an area situated nearby with a lot of attractive waterfalls. Mangala Devi Temple, located at the height of 1337 m and a distance of 15km from Thekkady, opens only during the Chitra Pournami Festival.

5. VARKALA

It is a coastal town in the southern part. It is famous for its hippie culture; shacks on the overhang serve great seafood, play hit global music and the samadhi of Kerala’s saint Sree Narayana Guru. Varkala is also known for Jardana Swami Temple and Dakshin Kashi.

It has some of the best-undefiled beaches, hills, lakes, forts, lighthouses, and natural fisheries, making this town a little promised land. You will find a lot of shops with signboards – Hebrew selling Yoga mats, oxidized silver jewellery and harem pants made of cotton. Ayurvedic spas, affordable resorts, hostels, and clean beaches make it a must-visit city in Kerala.

6. POOVAR

Poovar is a small homely town situated 27 km from Thiruvananthapuram with trackless golden sand beaches and charming outlands of Kerala.

It is also known as a fishing hamlet, and the peaceful Poovar Island lies within the Arabian Sea and Neyyar River. Hiring a boat (especially during the sunset) that will take you through the mangrove forest of the outlands is a must-do activity—the boat ride costs around INR 3000- INR 4000. The town has some beautiful hotels and resorts known for their hospitality.
Poovar beach is hidden and only accessible by boat. Swimming is allowed throughout the year except for monsoon months.
